NLP modeling is the procedure of recreating or modeling excellence. It’s about achieving a goal or an outcome by studying and replicating how someone else performs a task. However, NLP modeling goes further than just copying what the other person does. It’s about actually duplicating their underlying beliefs and thoughts, not just the behavior.
NLP modeling incorporates three steps into the process of modeling excellence.
1. Observing the Model
When observing a person who has achieved success you need to imagine yourself in their reality. Actually imagine the world as though you are looking at it through their eyes. Focus on the “what”, “how”, and “why” of the behavior you are modeling.
The “what” is the behavior you want to duplicate. You can gather this information from observing the model.
The “how’ is how they do the behavior, their internal thinking. The “why” is why they do it, their internal beliefs and perceptions. You can gain insight into the “how” and “why” by communicating with their subconscious mind. Many people who are very successful at certain tasks don’t necessarily know why they excel at what they do. The secrets are hidden in their subconscious mind. Hypnosis is a great way to communicate with that part of the mind and ask probing questions.
2. Find the Difference that Makes a Difference
When observing and studying the model you need to pin point exactly what it is that they do different from a person who is not successful. Learn the behavioral patterns such as how the model achieves those results and precisely what he/she did different that created their success.
3. Create a Plan to Duplicate the Skill
Once you have discovered the different pieces, that when put together, produce that successful behavior you can create a plan using that information. Form a plan and replace your thoughts and beliefs about the behavior with the model’s subconscious thoughts and beliefs. Use your plan to replicate the “what”, “how”, and “why’ to gain success in your life.
NLP modeling allows you to create something like a map; that map gets you from where you are now to where you want to be or what you want to become. When we want to go somewhere we use a map. With a map we know where we want to end up and the map shows us how to get there. Maps identify important aspects of a particular area and show us how these elements relate to each other. They then provide guidance as to how to get to our destination and then move within that area.
Do what works! Don’t try to reinvent the wheel. If you can learn from someone who has already reached excellence then glean from their hidden wisdom. Put yourself in their mind and think like they think, do what works. Study their behavior and discover their underlying thoughts and beliefs then incorporate those things into your life. Create your own excellence by learning from those who have already reached it.
